If you want to make progress in your life focus on what you want instead of what you don’t want.

I’ve spent the last year becoming really focused on where I want my business, and my personal life, to be heading. I’ve become very clear about what I want to accomplish in both areas of my life. If I make a mistake, I’m able to let go; I don’t beat myself up over what hasn’t worked.

Believe me, this has taken time, and a lot of tapping! It hasn’t been easy to let go of old patterns, limiting beliefs and the inevitable overwhelm I usually found myself to be in.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve worked with a number of clients, helping them set out and accomplish their vision. I’ve noticed a common theme: when we’re in fear, it’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong, what isn’t working and what doesn’t bring us joy.

In fact, we are so focused on these areas that we lose sight of what we could accomplish, where we want to be, and of what we are capable. We also lose the potential to feel the joy and vibrancy within us, instead feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and disheartened.

Following my article and EFT tapping transcript in last month’s newsletter on becoming focused, this month I thought it would be beneficial to take this one step further. Below is a technique I use with my clients when they want to accomplish something, yet know there are hidden saboteurs at play. It’s a great way to become clear, and raise your vibration, because you’ll be directing your attention towards what you want, how it will make you feel, and how your life will be different as a result of achieving this goal.

  1. First, write down what it is that you really want. Ensure you write in the positive, e.g., “I want to be healthy”, instead of “I don’t want to be sick anymore”.
  2. Next, write down how you will feel once you have achieved your goal. Take a moment to connect to those feelings and be as expressive as you can. Rather than “I’ll feel good”, consider “I’ll feel fantastic, free, safe, energized, etc.”
  3. Finally, write down how your life will be different when you have what you want.
  4. Then, read aloud the statement you have written down. As you hear your words, consider the believability of this outcome. If you feel a real connection to what you’ve written, and it all seems very believable, then assign it a ’10′. If it seems completely unbelievable, then assign it a ’0′, or give it a number in between to reflect how believable you find the statement to be.
  5. If your number is below a ’10′ (which it probably is, otherwise you would have already achieved whatever it is that you want), then consider what is stopping it being a ’10′. What are you resisting? What are the saboteurs? Why are you afraid of accomplishing this vision?
  6. Whatever answers you come up with, assign each one an intensity rating, and tap away the resistance with EFT.
  7. When you have done this, go back and re-read your statement and rate the believability again. The goal is to reach a ’10′, so if you’re not quite there, tap on any remaining resistance to completely owning what you want.

I’d love to hear your results! Please comment below on how well this technique worked for you.
