Is perfectionism holding you back from making progress?
How many of us live with echoes of, "If you can't do something right, don't do it at all"? People seem to react in different ways to this. Some anxiously push themselves to get every little thing just so, mainlining adrenaline. Some don't get started at all, lacking confidence that they have the time or ability to do it "right". Some struggle with feelings that they don't deserve good things in their lives unless they are doing everything perfectly.
Logically, we know that we're never going to achieve perfection in every aspects of our lives. However, while logic may silence our feelings, it can't make them go away.
With EFT, though, we can gently and respectfully free the bonds that hold us to unproductive and hurtful beliefs. If you ever struggle around the issue of perfection, here's a tapping transcript that can help you to reframe this conflict.
With your dominant hand, tap the karate chop point on the other hand while saying the following:
Even though I must be perfect, I accept myself anyway
Even though for whatever reason I have to do it all perfectly, I accept who I am and how I'm feeling about this
Even though being this perfect is actually keeping me stuck in old patterns, I deserve freedom from this
Now tap the following places while saying each of the phrases below.
Top of the head: I must be perfect
Eyebrow: I must do it all perfectly
Side of the eye: but this is holding me back
Under the eye: and it's slowing me down
Under the nose: everthing takes so long to accomplish
Chin: because everything has to be perfect
Collarbone: and behaving in this way is very tiring
Under the arm: I really deserve to change this behaviour
Top of the head: and I want to release any fear that's stopping me letting go of the need to be perfect in everything I do
Eyebrow: I am willing to release the fear that is driving this perfectionism
Side of the eye: I am more than this fear
Under the eye: and I deserve to feel confident in my abilities
Under the nose: I can do this!
Chin: and I'm ready to do it in an easy and flowing manner
Collarbone: which is comfortable and safe
Under the arm: I'm ready to accomplish my goals to the best of my abilities, surprisingly easily.
